China warns military recruits to stop beating off all day

Evidently it is not just the US military that is a faced with a epidemic of fat bodies and unhealthy life choices that is disqualifying potential recruits.  The People’s Republic of China is issuing a series of public service announcements stating that 8% of recruits are automatically disqualified due to varicocele, a condition with unknown causes […]

Op-Ed: Trump’s war in Afghanistan: Why are we doing this to ourselves?

President Trump certainly did not start the war in Afghanistan, nor did he perpetuate it for over a decade, but as he seemed to acknowledge himself in his speech last night, the war is now his.  In regards to Trump and Afghanistan, I would reflect back to my previous article about the so-called Deep State. […]

Is the deep state really that bad?

I’ve been fascinated to watch the recent public conversation about the “deep state” unfold.  I had been used to hearing this phrase from the far left, you know the type that wear sweaters and jackets with those leather patches on the elbows and give long-winded speeches at socialist enclaves on college campuses, those guys.  They […]

AWOL: A new action film created with Philippine SOF advisors

Gerald Anderson stars in a new movie set in the Philippines about a Special Forces soldier gone “absent without leave” to take on the criminal underworld in his home country.  While the revenge tale is a familiar one to movie-going audiences, what makes AWOL particularly unique is that it is set in an unfamiliar setting, […]

‘It’s just words.’ Trump’s tough talk on North Korea is just that

Recently President Trump has been talking a big talk about North Korea but the bravado and bluster is little more than empty rhetoric designed to appeal to a US domestic audience that wants to perceive America as “strong” in a confusing and chaotic era in which we struggle to find our place in the world. […]

Anti-ISIS operations in Iraq, next stop Tal Afar

With ISIS pushed out of Mosul, the next phase in the campaign is to rid the terrorist organization from the nearby city of Tal Afar.  Located smack dab between Mosul and Sinjar, Tal Afar is a medium-sized city inhabited by both Sunni and Shia but dominated by the Turkmen ethnic group rather than Arabs. As […]

Pentagon considers airstrikes in the Philippines, but it seems unlikely

NBC News recently cited two anonymous defense officials who stated that as early as tomorrow there could be a named program to begin conducting airstrikes in the Philippines, most likely with Predator drones.  While this is certainly one possibility, it is highly unlikely.  First, this would mean a new escalation in American military involvement in […]

Fuerzas Comando 2017, friendly competition and good will

In the recent Fuerzas Comando competition the team from Honduras took first place.  Fuerzas Comando is an annual competition that pits Special Operations teams from South and Central America against each other, with a US Special Forces team participating, in friendly competition.  This year the competition was hosted by Paraguay and included teams from over […]

Families speak out on murderer who killed Green Berets in Jordan

James Moriarty, the father of James Moriarty Jr. recently posted on social media regarding the conviction of the Jordanian Air Force gate guard who killed his son along with fellow Green Berets Matthew Lewellen and Kevin McEnroe saying: Today the FBI advised the families that Maarek abu Tayeh’s appeal has been denied and his sentence […]

US Special Forces conducts search and rescue training

US Special Forces counter-terrorism missions in Syria and Iraq get a lot of media coverage, but Green Berets are deployed to over 100 countries on any given year conducting a range of operations as laid out in the unit’s Mission Essential Task List (METL) including everything from counter-proliferation to special warfare.  This past May, Special […]

Uncovered document gives clues about an elusive Army unit

A declassified document provides background information about the Intelligence Support Activity (ISA), a little known intelligence gathering unit that collects tactical intel for Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and other Special Operations units.  While units like SEAL Team Six hog the headlines, smaller compartmentalized organizations slide below the radar. That said, ISA has had some […]

Drawing the Line: a new military fiction novel by Peter Nealen

Former Force Recon Marine Peter Nealen has his latest military fiction novel out, one that I know our readers have been looking forward to for a while now.  This book is actually a prequel to the Praetorian series about a mission taking place in Mexico that the author has been foreshadowing in his books for […]
