The Future of Counter-Terrorism: Threshold Strikes

It was then that I discovered the term ‘signature strike.’ These strikes are an exercise in profiling, absent of evidence or even names of targets — effectively acting as judge, jury, and executioners of tribal Pakistan. The confluence of testimonials from tribal-people, and a new understanding of signature strikes brought me to one particular drone […]

The Lodge Act Green Berets

In episode 284 of the Big Picture, “The Lodge Act Soldier” screened in 1954 to inform the American public that they are now locked in a political, economic, and psychological struggle with the communist menace, a war the likes of which the US military had never been confronted with before.  To that end, and to […]

Former Squadron Sergeant Major of the Rhodesian Special Air Service is quite a man, and a bit of a legend to say the least.  During World War Two, Jock attempted to join the British military but was too young initially. At 18, he joined the British paratroopers prior to D-Day and jumped in to Normandy. On that […]

Misinformation is simply false information spread by people who don’t know any better. Disinformation […]

Inside the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC)

The Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) is held once a year in Tampa, Florida as a place for venders to pitch their products to the Special Operations community to help stimulate some interaction between SOF and the private sector.  For instance, I sat in on a panel were the Special Operations representatives of the […]

1,000 Posts Into the SOFREP Story

Well folks, we just hit our 1,000th post the other day; specifically Brandon’s update from Poland about the documentary he is working on about GROM, which means that it is time for a mandatory orgy of self-congratulations. Well, not really. But seriously, yes it is. So I got out of the Army in 2010 and […]

Why Does PETA Want to Kill Our Special Operators?

The public has always been fascinated by the training that US Special Operations Forces receive. What goes in to making an elite warrior? What skill sets are cultivated and polished in these young men? To sum it up, we train as we fight. At places like the JFK Special Warfare Center and School, our Special […]
