House of Cards has turned into a cultural train wreck

The sixth season of Netflix’s political thriller House of Cards, is thankfully the last. Today Saudi foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir described the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi as a rogue operation saying that, “there obviously was a tremendous mistake made, and what compounded the mistake was the attempt to try to cover up. That is unacceptable in any government.” Since the murder occurred in the Saudi embassy […]

Les Grossman revisited: Tom Cruise’s prophetic pre-#metoo performance

Entertainment news is a bit outside my wheelhouse, but I wanted to take a moment to hash over something I realized when reflecting back on the hilarious 2008 movie Tropic Thunder.  I saw it in theaters at the time and thought it was a great, funny and well-written parody of the war movie genre with […]

New study shows that the “exhausted majority” of Americans are fed up with PC culture

The social sciences are sometimes looked down upon by those who practice so called hard science, such as physics or chemistry, as being something of a pseudo-science.  Granted, I may be biased as I majored in political science myself, but the what makes it an actual science is the adherence to tested statistical methodologies.  These […]
