Shooting at Dallas ICE Facility: What We Know So Far

Dallas, TX — Wednesday, September 24, 2025. A gunman opened fire early this morning outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas, striking three people before dying from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials. The situation is fluid, and authorities are still releasing details.

Timeline and Location

The shooting began shortly after 6:40 a.m., local time, when Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to calls of gunfire near the ICE office at 8101 N. Stemmons Freeway. Police and federal agents quickly locked down the area, sweeping nearby rooftops after initial reports suggested a sniper or multiple shooters. By later in the morning, investigators said the incident appeared to involve a single suspect, who was later found dead from a self-inflicted wound.

Victims and Casualties

Authorities confirmed that three people were shot and injured. Their identities, affiliations, and conditions have not yet been publicly released.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters there were “killed and injured” in the attack, a statement echoed in some national reporting. However, the Associated Press and Dallas officials have so far only confirmed injuries, not fatalities beyond the gunman. This discrepancy highlights the developing nature of the story.

SOFREP cannot report on the final disposition of those shot until we have definitive facts.

The Shooter

The suspected gunman died from what authorities describe as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Associated Press and Wall Street Journal confirm the death but have not provided details on the suspect’s identity or motives. Local outlets, including the Houston Chronicle, report that the body was found on the roof of a nearby immigration attorney’s office. That detail has not been officially confirmed by Dallas police or federal investigators.

What We Don’t Know

Several key details remain unconfirmed:

  • Victim identities and roles. Authorities have not said whether those shot were ICE staff, contractors, detainees, or visitors.
  • Exact casualty count. Federal leadership referenced both “killed and injured,” but Dallas officials have only confirmed three injured.
  • Shooter’s background and motive. No information yet on the suspect’s identity, affiliations, or possible grievances.
  • Ballistics and vantage. Police have not released the type of weapon, the distance, or tactical details of the attack.

Security Context

This attack follows a troubling summer in North Texas. On July 4, a coordinated ambush outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado left a police officer wounded and led to federal charges against several suspects. Federal authorities have warned of rising threats against immigration enforcement facilities nationwide. There is no evidence yet linking today’s Dallas shooting to that earlier incident, but investigators will weigh the parallel as they examine motive.

Why This Facility?

The Dallas field office is a major ICE hub for North Texas and Oklahoma, handling enforcement and removal operations. Its location—close to an elevated freeway and surrounded by commercial rooftops—creates multiple sightlines and security vulnerabilities. That geography helps explain why police swept neighboring rooftops immediately after the shooting began.

The Bottom Line

As of mid-morning, Sept. 24:

  • Three people are confirmed shot and injured.
  • The suspected shooter is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
  • Motive is unknown.
  • Victim identities and conditions have not been released.

Once again, Federal officials have spoken of “killed and injured,” but local authorities have not confirmed fatalities beyond the shooter. Expect further clarity as Dallas police and federal agencies brief the public and notify families.

For now, treat anything beyond these confirmed facts as developing, unverified, and subject to change as authorities release more information.

This is a developing story. Please check back with SOFREP for more facts as they are made available to us.

UPDATE: 1318 EDT

Following the gunfire this morning outside Dallas’s ICE field office — three detainees were hit, two are dead, one is clinging to life.

The shooter is gone — an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound ended it on a nearby rooftop.

No ICE agents or law enforcement were injured, officials confirm.

FBI says this wasn’t random madness — they’re treating it as targeted violence.

Shell casings recovered at the scene carried scrawled messages: “ANTI-ICE.”

The gunfire came from a nearby rooftop/adjacent building, aimed at the sally port where detainee transport vans pull in.

The three victims were detainees being moved during early morning operations.

Motive hasn’t been officially nailed down, but investigators are looking squarely at ideological hostility to ICE.

Federal and local agencies are holding the line — they’re warning the public this story is still unfolding and subject to change.

For now, here’s the ground truth: two detainees dead, one critical, shooter dead, motive under investigation.
